1 Check the homework exercises.
2 Books closed! Revise the contents of thereading passage in SB Lesson 10, using Wb Lesson 10, Ex. 1 as a guide.
Step 2 Presentation
SB Page 16, Part 1. Tell the Ss Today weare going to read more about body language. How close do people stand when theyare talking together? Is it good manners to stand very close to your friendlike this? (Teach good/bad manners.) The distance between people who aretalking is different in some countries. Let‘s read and find out. Give the Ss ashort time to read the passage. Then collect the information from the class andwrite it in note form on the Bb.
Step 3 Reading
Ask more questions on the reading passage.Let the Ss read the passage and answer the questions, working in pairs or smallgroups. Check the answers with the whole class. Deal with any language pointsthat arise.
Notes:

Step 4 Language focus
Write on the Bb the sentence It is thecustom in France to shake hands a lot. Point out the use of to in to shake.Remind the Ss that this is the infinitive form of the verb. Revise some usesof the to infinitive.

Step 5 Practice
SB Page 16, Part 2. Teach the new wordsguest, host, fist, truth and juice. Do one or two sentences orally in each partas an example, then let the Ss work in pairs, making up suitable sentences.Some suggested sentences:

SB Page 17, Part 3. Go through the example.Teach the new word juice. Let the Ss work in pairs. At the end of this activityask some pairs to act out in front of the class. Suggested dialogues:
A: Would you like something to drink?
B: Yes, apple juice, please.
A: Sorry I’ve got nothing to offer you.
B: It doesn‘t matter. A: Have you got anymore to say?
B: No, thanks.
A: Are you free tomorrow?
B: No, I’ve a lot to do.
A: Have you got everything ready for theconference?
B: Yes. There‘s nothing to worry about.
Step 7 Discussion
SB Page 17, Part 4. Take it up in class ifyou have time. Ask the Ss to list out all the body language they have learnedand write them on the Bb. Then let the Ss work in pairs and discuss what thebody language will help to do.

Wb Lesson 11,Exx. 1-3.
Make sure the Ss have a full understandingof the reading passages before starting to do Ex. 1. Let the Ss discuss theanswers in pairs. Then check the answers with the whole class. The Ss shouldread out the whole passage. It is better to have the answers written on the Bb.
Do Ex. 2 orally in class.
If time permits, do Ex. 3 in class.Encourage the Ss to think of different answers.
Homework
Finish the Workbook exercises. Revise thecontents in this unit. Do Ex. 3 if it is possible.
